WISCONSIN – On the heels of the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the Democracy Defense Project – Wisconsin (DDP-WI) Board released the following statement.

“Yesterday’s violence was heartbreaking, and a continuation of political violence on both sides of the aisle that is trending in the wrong direction. Our mission is to restore trust in our election systems, and as a result in our system as a whole, and both violence and hyperbolic reactions only worsen already growing divisions nationwide. While not all of us agreed with Charlie on many points, we all agree that the basis of our democratic system is rooted in civil discourse in debate to be resolved at the ballot box. It is our responsibility, as Republicans and Democrats, to hold ourselves accountable for the language we use and commit to healing these divisions together as Americans.”

The DDP-WI board is made up of bipartisan statewide leaders, including former Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes, former Attorney General JB Van Hollen, former U.S. Representative Scott Klug and former Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Mike Tate.
