Democracy Defense Project Statement on Election Reform Proposals

WISCONSIN – Today, bipartisan legislators announced the introduction of election reform bills reflecting the will of more than 70% of Wisconsin voters. Reforms proposed will clear up confusion on Election Night by allowing pre-processing of absentee and mail in ballots on Monday before Election Day while establishing clear statewide regulations for the use of drop boxes to ensure all are held to an equal standard of security.

The Democracy Defense Project – Wisconsin is proud to continue our work educating voters on the merits of continual improvement to the election system to bolster the security measures already in place and rebuild trust in Wisconsin elections.

The bipartisan board of DDP-WI released the following statement in response to today’s announcement.

“When Wisconsin declares a winner, there should be no doubt the results are accurate. The package of legislation introduced today will provide added transparency to the ballot counting process, letting voters know who won before they go to bed rather than overnight when the final tallies have come in for previous elections. Our polling showed reforms like these are widely supported across Democrats, Republicans, and Independents and show the voice of the people is being heard when it comes to improving the election process.”
