Columbus, Ohio – A new poll released by the Democracy DefenseProject shows that Ohio voters are confident in the state’s electoral system and supportive of additional bipartisan measures to safeguard election integrity, while firmly opposing the adoption of ranked-choice voting. The poll, conducted in June 2025, gauged voter confidence in elections and tested support for several legislative proposals under consideration by the Ohio General Assembly.
“What the survey results show in Ohio is a strong affirmation of trust in the current election system, paired with a clear appetite for practical, bipartisan reforms,” said Brendon DelToro, Founding Partner at Guidant Polling and Strategy. “Voters want to strengthen the integrity of elections—not reinvent them. That’s why policies like proof-of-citizenship requirements and poll worker protections resonate with Ohio voters.”
The Democracy Defense Project is a bipartisan organization working to defend the transparency, safety, security and validity of the elections system. The organization’s bipartisan board members, including former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell (R) and former Ohio Congressman Zack Space (D), spearhead initiatives in Ohio and other key battleground states to preserve election integrity, foster greater confidence in election results and improve voter participation.
KEY FINDINGS
Ohio voters overwhelmingly trust the current electoral process and want to see common-sense reforms that bolster transparency and security. However, ranked-choice voting remains unpopular among voters across the political spectrum.
Strong Confidence in 2024 Election Results
Over 70% of Ohio voters expressed confidence that the 2024 presidential election was secure, both in the state and nationally, with accurate vote counting and protection against fraud, hacking, and technological interference.
Broad Support for Targeted Election Reforms
- SAVE Act: 59% said it is very important for elected officials to implement the SAVE Act, which would require proof of citizenship to register to vote.
- Poll Worker Protections: Bipartisan majorities (60% of Democrats and 58% of Republicans) support measures to enhance poll worker safety and recruitment.
- Election Integrity Unit: 48% consider the creation of a unit to investigate voter fraud and suppression a top priority.
Strong Opposition to Ranked-Choice Voting
Despite general support for election reforms, Ohio voters rejected ranked-choice voting by a 10-point margin. This opposition spanned party lines, including more than a quarter of Democrats, four in ten Independents, and more than half of Republicans. Concerns cited include complexity and voter confusion.
