Las Vegas, Nev. — The Democracy Defense Project in Nevada (DDP) today reaffirmed that elections are best administered by states and local election professionals, and that Nevada’s election system remains secure, transparent and accountable.
“Rhetoric about ‘nationalizing’ elections is dangerous because of the doubt it can cast on the hardworking election officials here in Nevada,” said former Speaker of the Assembly Richard Perkins, co-chair of DDP Nevada. “Instead of falsely criticizing a system grounded in integrity and accuracy, it’s important to remind Nevadans of a simple truth: Your vote is safe, and it will be counted every time.”
“I have full confidence in Nevada’s election system, and I’m grateful to the election staff and volunteers who work long hours to keep it secure and accountable,” said former Gov. Brian Sandoval, co-chair of DDP Nevada. “Nevada has the capability and experience to conduct elections in every county, and I trust our state is best equipped to collect ballots, count votes and certify our elections.”
DDP Nevada emphasized that protecting election confidence requires responsible leadership and clear facts. Rhetoric that undermines the public servants who administer elections at the county and state level is harmful and uncalled for.
“Nevada’s elections should be handled in Nevada, by Nevadans,” Perkins added. “That’s how voters are protected, how accountability is maintained, and how trust is preserved.”
