Nashua, NH – The Democracy Defense Project (DDP) announced today former Congressman Charlie Bass as co-chair of its efforts in New Hampshire to promote awareness of, and build confidence in, the state’s election systems.
“As a former elected official, I know at a very intimate level how critical our election systems are to ensuring our democracy is representative of the will of the people. I look forward to working alongside Amb. Swett to continue the bipartisan drumbeat advocating for our fair, free, and transparent elections.”
Bass is a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing New Hampshire’s second congressional district from 1995 – 2007, and then again from 2011-2013. Bass also served in the New Hampshire statehouse both as a member of the Senate and House of Representatives.
“Charlie and I have competed for the same seat and now we have the opportunity of working together in a bipartisan fashion to ensure that seat is properly filled in the future. We have been on both the winning and losing end of elections, and we understand that no matter the outcome, we stand by the results,” said Amb. Swett. “That’s the great thing about our democracy, and why we must continue to rebuild confidence in both the processes and outcomes of our election systems.”
The DDP has partnered with local and state election officials to have informed and productive conversation on the state of New Hampshire’s elections and how DDP can advance efforts to strengthen public perception of both how elections are run, and trust the outcomes. DDP has also focused on understanding how Granite Staters feel about the election system and what drives their perception.
