Democracy Defense Project New Hampshire Board Statement on Local Focus of Election Administration

NEW HAMPSHIRE – The below statement is attributed to Fmr Ambassador and Rep Dick Swett and Fmr Rep Charlie Bass who co chair the Democracy Defense Project in New Hampshire in response to President Trump’s new election related executive order calling on the Department of Homeland Security, alongside the Social Security Administration, to create a nationwide list of verified eligible voters:

“From the New Hampshire Secretary of State to local moderators, we know who conducts New Hampshire’s elections. This intimate and local focus ensures transparency and security and has made New Hampshire elections the gold standard in determining results based on the will of the people.

The US Constitution is clear in giving states, not the federal government, the authority to conduct elections.
A recent poll conducted by the Democracy Defense Project showed that nearly 80% of Granite Staters don’t want the federal government meddling in our elections. We will continue to support and work with our Sec. of State to ensure New Hampshire’s elections remain lawful, fair and accountable to all Granite Staters.”
