Democracy Defense Project NH – Bass & Swett Statement on Trump “nationalize” elections

NEW HAMPSHIRE – The below statement is attributed to Fmr Ambassador and Rep Dick Swett and Fmr Rep Charlie Bass who co chair the Democracy Defense Project in New Hampshire in response to President Trump’s comments on “nationalizing” our elections:

“New Hampshire’s elections are conducted on a local level according to New Hampshire State Law and as prescribed in United States Constitution.

Together, as DDP NH Co-Chairs, and alongside so many other great Granite Staters who run for and execute our elections, we affirm faith in our elections and in the local process and laws.

We renounce any misguided and unconstitutional federal takeover or legislation to nationalize our New Hampshire elections. We equally and unequivocally denounce any ill informed or outrageous statements from the President or anyone else who would espouse similar nonsense in any federal effort to interfere in our New Hampshire elections and election law.

Furthermore, we believe locally controlled elections serve as a protection against any fraud or corruption that could be initiated at the federal level. Any problems or issues with one voting precinct at the local level can be identified and remedied, and will never change the outcome of an entire election.”
