Democracy Defense Project – Georgia: Nationalized Elections Violate the Constitution, Undermine Election Integrity

ATLANTA, GA – In response to President Donald J. Trump’s call to “nationalize” American elections, board members of the Democracy Defense Project – Georgia issued the following statement:

“Elections in the United States are administered by the states, not the federal government. That principle is clearly established in the U.S. Constitution. It is not a matter of opinion, and frankly, it is not up for debate.

“Around the world, nationalized elections in places like Venezuela, are a hallmark of authoritarian regimes, where centralized control is used to manipulate results and extend tyrannical rule. Our decentralized, state-run election system is a strength, not a weakness. It protects against foreign interference, provides multiple layers of transparency, fosters civic engagement and bolsters public trust.

”To keep our country strong and free, we must follow the Constitution, respect democratic norms, and reject proposals that undermine election integrity.”
